President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Glanville has served as STEP’s president and CEO since October 2022. A co-founder of STEP, he previously held the role of COO from the company’s inception in March 2011 before being appointed president in July 2021. Mr. Glanville is a certified engineering technologist with 30 years of oilfield experience and a strong background in operations and management. His career includes 10 years with SLB, formerly Schlumberger, in its North American oilfield services divisions, seven years with Sanjel Energy Services managing the Canadian coiled tubing and nitrogen business unit, and two years with Calfrac Well Services Ltd. as manager of their Canadian coiled tubing division. Mr. Glanville has contributed significantly to industry organizations. He is a former board member of the Enserva Association (formerly the Petroleum Services Association of Canada) and a past director of Enserva’s Stars and Spurs Gala supporting STARS Air Ambulance. Additionally, he served as president of the Intervention & Coiled Tubing Association, Canadian Chapter (ICoTA). Mr. Glanville earned his diploma from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Mr. Glanville is a holder of the Institute of Corporate Directors Director designation.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Deemter has served as STEP’s CFO since November 4, 2021, prior to which he held the title senior vice-president, finance from October 12 to November 3, 2021. Prior to joining STEP, Mr. Deemter spent 12 years with Trican Well Service and held progressively senior roles, including senior finance director, corporate controller, and as interim CFO in Q1 and Q2 of 2021. Previously, Mr. Deemter worked with two of Canada’s chartered banks in various account management and risk management roles from 2001 to 2009. Mr. Deemter has a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta.
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Thompson has served as the chief operating officer since October 2022. Previously, he held roles of increasing responsibility in the Canadian operations region including operations manager, director of operations, vice-president, coiled tubing services and most recently, president, Canadian operations. Mr. Thompson has over 25 years of North American oilfield experience. Prior to joining STEP, Mr. Thompson worked for Technicoil Corporation from 2001 to 2011, where he held various operations roles, including senior field superintendent. Before entering the coiled tubing industry, Mr. Thompson was in the drilling sector with Layne Christensen Company and started out his oilfield career as a drilling roughneck.
VP, Human Resources
Ms. Boucher has served as the vice-president, human resources of STEP since March 2022. She has over 25 years’ experience in human resources and finance, with complementary expertise in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and executive compensation. Before joining STEP as director, human resources in June 2021, Ms. Boucher held progressively senior roles in the finance and human resources departments at Crescent Point Energy Corp., most recently as vice-president, human resources, as well as manager, financial reporting at TAQA North Ltd. and vice president, finance at Tenon USA. Prior to, Ms. Boucher worked for the audit departments of KPMG LLP and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, with engagements across a wide range of industries in Calgary and New Zealand. She is a Chartered Accountant, holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta.
VP, Sustainability and Communications
Ms. Crawford has served as vice president, sustainability and communications since August 2023, and is responsible for the company's marketing and communications programs and sustainability strategy. She joined STEP in 2012 as manager, marketing and communications and advanced to the position of director, marketing and communications in 2018. Ms. Crawford has almost 20 years of marketing and communications experience, the majority of which has been spent in the energy services sector. Ms. Crawford holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary and a Graduate Diploma in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability from the University of St. Michael's College in the University of Toronto.
VP, Legal and General Counsel
Mr. Kane has served as vice-president, legal and general counsel since January 2021. Most recently, Mr. Kane was STEP’s general counsel, a role he has held since joining the company in 2016. Mr. Kane has practiced law for over 15 years; most of his career has been spent providing strategic legal counsel and overseeing the corporate governance for large international companies in the oilfield services sector. Prior to joining STEP, Mr. Kane held positions at Sanjel Corporation, TransCanada Pipelines Limited (now TC Energy), and Macleod Dixon LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright). Mr. Kane holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor, and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Lethbridge. He is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, Canada.
VP, Finance
Mr. McFarlane has served as vice-president, finance, since January 2023. He is a chartered accountant with over 20 years of financial and leadership experience, focusing on oil and gas services for the last 15 years. Mr. McFarlane has held progressively senior roles since joining STEP in 2014, serving as controller in both Canada and the U.S., director, finance, U.S. from 2019 to 2021, and most recently as vice president, finance, U.S. from 2021 to 2022. Mr. McFarlane graduated from the University of Alberta with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta.
VP, Operations U.S.
Mr. Clark has served as vice-president, operations, U.S. since December 2021. Mr. Clark joined STEP in 2015 as operations manager, coiled tubing, U.S. and most recently held the role of director, coiled tubing, U.S. Prior to joining STEP, Mr. Clark served as the western region manager for Pioneer Energy Services and has extensive oilfield experience in operations, engineering and management roles with Go-Coil and BJ Services. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Louisiana.
VP, Operations Canada
Mr. McCauley has served as VP, operations, Canada since October 2022. He joined STEP in 2015 as operations manager, fracturing services; in 2018, he was promoted to director, fracturing services, Canada. Mr. McCauley has over 20 years of experience in the oilfield services sector and leads with his extensive operational knowledge and strong business acumen. Prior to joining STEP, he spent five years providing wellsite supervision services through his consulting firm, looking after completions and workovers for a variety of energy producers in Saskatchewan. Previously, he spent almost 9 years with Trican in progressive operational and leadership roles, including fracturing manager. His early career included positions with several oilfield services companies during which time he gained valuable operational experience in well completions.
VP, Sales & Engineering Technology
Mr. Rainville has served as the vice-president, sales and engineering technology, Canada since May 2021. He joined STEP in July 2015 as vice-president, sales and marketing and in 2018 held the role of vice-president, sales and engineering - Canada. Mr. Rainville has over 30 years of experience in both the oilfield exploration and production, and service sector, starting first in drilling and completions before moving to service and eventually into sales and marketing. Mr. Rainville is a certified engineering technologist, having spent 13 years working at Calfrac Well Services Ltd. in technical services, as account manager and as sales manager. Mr. Rainville received his Diploma, Petroleum Technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Along with the executive leadership team, STEP’s Board of Directors are responsible for stewardship and corporate governance of the organization. Our Board members are energy services experts and experienced industry professionals.
The Board provides oversight through the Audit Committee, the Health, Safety & Environment Committee, and the Compensation & Corporate Governance Committee.
Chair
Mr. Gackle is a managing director at ARC Financial Corp. and leads its oilfield service and energy transition investment teams. Since joining ARC Financial Corp. in 2004, Mr. Gackle’s role has transitioned from analytical support roles to responsibilities ranging from deal origination and structuring to due diligence, execution, strategic development and investment monitoring. Mr. Gackle serves on the boards of various private energy service and manufacturing companies as well as KidSport Society of Calgary. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Calgary, is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder, and is a certified director from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Lead Director
Mr. LaFehr has 40 years of experience in the energy industry managing large and complex onshore and offshore E&P assets with Amoco, BP, Talisman, TAQA and Baytex Energy, holding senior management positions in North America, Europe and the Middle East. He currently serves as a director of Vaalco Energy, Inc. a position he has held since Vaalco’s combination with TransGlobe Energy in October 2022; Mr. LaFehr was appointed to TransGlobe Energy’s board in March 2019. Mr. LaFehr served as the president and chief executive officer of Baytex for six years before retiring in January 2023. From 2014 to 2016, Mr. LaFehr served as chief operating officer for TAQA, globally, and from 2012 to 2014 he was president of TAQA North America in Calgary. Prior to this, Mr. LaFehr was senior vice president for Talisman in Calgary. Mr. LaFehr began his career in exploration and development in the U.S. Mid-Continent and Rocky Mountain regions, while also holding assignments in the corporate planning groups of Amoco and BP. Mr. LaFehr served on the board of directors of the Explorers and Producers Association of Canada from 2018 through January of 2023. He also served on the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) board of governors from 2012 to 2014 and was chairman of CAPP’s Alberta Executive Policy Group in 2013. Mr. LaFehr holds a Master’s degree in geophysics from Stanford University, a Master’s degree in mineral economics from the Colorado School of Mines, and a Bachelor of Science in geophysics from the University of Utah. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and the International Association of Energy Economists.
Director
Ms. Forrest is the Executive Director of the ARC Energy Research Institute and is responsible for ARC Financial Corp.’s strategic investment research. She supports ARC’s advancement of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) analysis and implementation and regularly shares insights with ARC portfolio companies and investors. Ms. Forrest is a director of ARC Financial Corp. and member of ARC Financial Corp.'s Executive and Investment Committees.
Ms. Forrest joined ARC in 2014 and is a 25+ year veteran of the energy industry. She is a sought-after public speaker and author and is frequently quoted in the press. Prior to joining ARC, she was the leader of North American crude oil research for IHS CERA. Ms. Forrest has a Master of Business Administration from Queen's University, a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary, and is a Professional Engineer.

Mr. Harbilas is the Executive Vice-President and CFO at AltaGas Ltd. ("AltaGas") (energy infrastructure) since June 2019 and is responsible for AltaGas' risk, finance, treasury, strategy, investor relations, corporate development and capital market functions. Prior to joining AltaGas, Mr. Harbilas was the Executive Vice-President and CFO at Enerflex Ltd. ("Enerflex") and its predecessor (oil and gas) from 2007 to May 2019, responsible for overseeing and providing leadership and all financial affairs, reporting and corporate governance of Enerflex. Prior to joining Enerflex, Mr. Harbilas was Vice-President, Finance and CFO of Fortis Alberta Inc. (utilities). Previously, he held senior positions in various financial capacities at SNC-Lavalin Group (engineering and construction) and AltaLink Management Ltd. (utilities). Mr. Harbilas holds a Bachelor of Commerce and graduate diploma in accounting from Concordia University (1996). He is a chartered accountant and a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta, the Ordre des comptable agrees du Québec and Financial Executive Institute.
Director
Mr. Kelly is a business leader with over 30 years of experience working with growth-oriented businesses in Canadian and international markets. Mr. Kelly held various executive roles for Trican Well Service Ltd. from 1997 to 2013. During that time, he helped the company grow from a regional Canadian service company to a global presence, with operations spanning North America, MENA, Australia, Russia and Kazakhstan. Mr. Kelly previously held the role of director at STEP from March 2014 until October 2018, and Chief Financial Officer from November 2018 until November 2021. Mr. Kelly is currently a director and audit committee chair for ATB Financial, and chairs the boards of Habitat Life Science, Enersoft Inc. and Ayrton Energy and is a member of the Board of Interra Energy Services. He has extensive board experience in the private and public sectors, in industries that include oil field services, agtech, cannabis and hydrogen transportation and digital technology. Mr. Kelly is an experienced finance professional who was an active CPA for 25 years and a certified director with an ICD.D designation.
Director
Ms. Moore has served as executive vice president, corporate services of Ovintiv Inc. ("Ovintiv") since January 2020, responsible for managing human resources, information technology, communications, sustainability, and administrative services. She previously served as Ovintiv’s vice president, human resources, since January 2015. Prior to joining Ovintiv, Ms. Moore held a variety of senior leadership positions including executive vice president, human resources, Savanna Energy Services Corporation, and vice president, human resources, Enerflex Systems Ltd. With two decades of experience in corporate services across various industries, she developed and implemented successful strategies in total compensation, organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, systems implementations, change management, communications, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ms. Moore currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Wilder Institute (Calgary Zoo) in support of wildlife conservation. She previously chaired the board for the United Way of Calgary and Area and served on their human resources, strategic planning and governance committee. Ms. Moore holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Calgary.
